Equestrian/ Horse questions! First time taking riding lessons.?
I'm starting to take Equestrian classes, and I when I get there, I have to take the horse out of the stable, put his harness on and other stuff and I FORGET WHAT TO DO!! They showed me how to yesterday, but now I forget! Some one please help me, I don't want to look like an idiot!
By harness, to you mean halter, the thing that goes on their head to lead them? or the type of harness used to drive them?
If you mean the halter for leading them, first unhook the snap, and you bring the noseband around their nose, then the crown piece, you bring behind the ears. Then just latch the snap back on. (I don't normally call it a snap, but the link below this is a picture, and it is a diagram of a halter, and it calls it a snap)

If the halter doesn't have a snap, then undo the buckle of the crown piece. Then slide the nose band around the nose and bring the crown piece around the ears and then fasten the buckle. If the lead rope is not already attached to the halter, then attach it to the ring under the nose band.
It may also be a rope halter, which is made of rope instead of nylon webbing or leather. Here's a video on how to put a rope halter on. The second video is how to tie the knot.
Leading, you always lead from the left side, (although for safety reasons some people do teach their horses to lead from both sides in case they have to lead from the right side in an emergency) To lead, you walk next to the horse's head, but depending on the horse, the horse may be trained to walk behind you instead of next to you. You don't need to hold the lead rope at the buckle where it attaches to the halter, hold it a little away from it so you're not pulling them. If it's a good school horse for a beginner, then it should be gentle and willing to just walk with you.
It sounds like who ever is teaching your lesson is expecting too much from you, also don't be afraid to ask questions. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer them, it's safer for you and their horse if you ask to make sure you are doing things correctly.
